Abstract :
Ameloblastic fibroma is classified in an
odontogenic mixed tumor and its report is extremely
rare. We experienced a case of ameloblastic fibroma of
the mandible.
The patient was a 51-year-old man with a bony
swelling in the incisal to the left premolar region of
the mandible. Radiographic examination showed a
tumorous mass consisting of a mixture of radiolucent
and radiopaque lesions. Radioisotope scintigram with
99mTc showed 2 hot spots corresponding to the mass of
the mandible. The clinical diagnosis of a tumor of the
mandible was made. Biopsy revealed the lesion to be an
ameloblastic fibroma. The tumor was removed by partial
resection of the mandible with the patient under
general anesthesia. The postoperative course was
uneventful and 3 years later, there was no evidence of
recurrence of the lesion.
Microscopically, the tumor consisted of a solid
lesion with proliferation of ameloblastic cells and
fibrous connective tissue and a cystic lesion with a
lining of ameloblastic cells accompanied by
proliferation of fibroblastic cells.
